Using Sound recorders as a Pedagogical Tool for Language development

Abstract

Recorded oral journals are not nearly as widely used as written learner journals. This article first briefly reviews the subject of learner autonomy and the pedagogical practices which encourage it, and then examines how these can be put into practice when using recording devices. Specifically, this article discusses aspects of learner confidence and autonomy, as well as oral pronunciation, fluency and accuracy. It then concludes with a brief treatment of various devices and software.
